Bankruptcy Rates Rise in Older Individuals

July 10th, 2008 · No Comments

Although the bulk of bankruptcy rates along all the levels are rising, it seems that the rates of bankruptcy for those age of 65 and older has increased drastically over the past 8 years. Forbes did a study showing that while the numbers for overall bankruptcy did increase, the percentage of those filing that were over the age of 65 had increased dramatically over the past few years.

The study also showed that the number of younger people filing was lower in the overall bankruptcy numbers. Researches think that we have taught the youth of today to juggle so many things at once, that this lower rate in our economy is not hitting them as bad as it would any of us including the older Americans. The majority of bankruptcies are still being filed from people between the ages of 35 and 45, but according to AARP’s records, the number of older individuals filing bankruptcy is on the rise.
