Tousa Inc., a home builder based in Hollywood, filed for bankruptcy protection Tuesday as part of a proposed restructuring plan, making it the largest homebuilder in bankruptcy and the 14th to file bankruptcy since June. Tousa is just one of the many casualties of the crumbling US housing industry - 2007 was the worst sales year since records began in 1963. Foreclosures nearly doubled last month, compared to figures from a year ago.

The company reported $2.3 billion in assets and $1.8 billion in debt in its filing.
